The season is not over, but the Jets have already begun turning the page towards 2025.
Gang Green has already started interviewing candidates for its vacant general manager position. The general manager will be responsible for finding a new coach and making critical decisions about impending free agents and other players who remain on the roster.
Because of that, the Jets will look a lot different next season.
Following a disappointing season, 24 players will become free agents when free agency begins next March. With that, let’s look at the key players who could stay and will likely be on another team in 2025.
LB C.J. MOSLEY
Many of the Jets’ defensive players are set to hit free agency. Mosley is not one of them, but he has likely played his final game in a Jets uniform.
Mosley, 32, had an injury-filled 2024 season. He first suffered a toe injury in Week 2 against the Titans and missed three games. However, Mosley’s season took an eerie turn when he was ruled out before their Week 8 contest against the Patriots. After he warmed up and delivered a pre-game speech, his neck locked up, and it was later revealed that he suffered a herniated disc.
The Jets placed Mosley on injured reserve before the team’s Week 14 loss to the Dolphins. With a new regime coming in, Mosley, who has been with the Jets since 2019, will likely be a salary cap casualty.
If they release Mosley with a post-June 1 designation, the Jets would save $4 million. Gang Green needs to get younger after its defense clearly took a step back after Robert Saleh was fired, and Mosley will likely be one of the first dominoes to fall.
CB D.J. REED
Reed has been a key contributor to a defense that finished in the top five in 2022 and 2023. However, he will likely look for another team once the season concludes.
After the Jets signed slot cornerback Michael Carter II to a three-year, $30.75 million extension, the writing was on the wall for Reed.
Gang Green will have over $32 million in salary cap space in 2025. However, that number could be sustainably lower if the Jets decide to release Aaron Rodgers during the offseason. If the Jets decide to move on from Rodgers, they would take a $49 salary cap hit.
With a rebuild coming and not likely a lot of money to spend, Reed will be a coveted player in free agency. He has been the Jets’ best cornerback this season and will have a chance to be on a contending team.
RT MORGAN MOSES
Moses, 33, has battled knee, shoulder and wrist injuries this season. But he continues to play through the ailments, which could be one reason he could return to the Jets next season.
Moses’s toughness has been a positive during a turbulent season. He is also one of the team’s unquestioned leaders.
Moses will be a free agent in March, but the Jets could bring him back on a short-term deal. This will allow the Jets to find his eventual replacement at right tackle while also providing some stability at the position for another season.
TE TYLER CONKLIN
Conklin has been a solid receiving option for the Jets since they signed him during the 2022 offseason. But Gang Green could decide to revamp the tight end position next offseason, which means Conklin could depart.
During his first two seasons with the Jets, Conklin averaged 60 catches, 587 yards and two touchdowns. But his numbers are down this season, and he could look to latch on with a contending team in need of tight end help.
PASS RUSHER HAASON REDDICK
The Jets acquired Reddick in a trade with the Eagles last March, hoping he would improve their pass rush after Bryce Huff left for the Eagles. However, he has been a massive disappointment following his holdout, which extended well into the season.
Reddick didn’t report to the Jets’ offseason program and training camp following a contract dispute, which was evident when he returned in Week 8 against the Patriots.
Reddick held out, hoping to secure long-term security with the Jets. Now, he will head to free agency and will likely have to take a one-year prove-it deal elsewhere.
LT TYRON SMITH
Smith’s signing, along with the Reddick trade, will go down as one of the more disappointing acquisitions during the 2024 offseason. In 592 snaps, Smith committed six penalties and allowed five sacks in 10 games.
Smith, who turned 34 on Dec. 12, injured his neck during the Jets’ loss against the Cardinals on Nov. 10. He was placed on injured reserve on Nov. 30 because of the injury.
