‘Tis the season when we all love to snuggle up with a hot chocolate and watch beloved film The Holiday.
Who can forget the charming tale of Iris and Amanda, played by Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz, who fall head over heels in love after swapping houses, cars, friends and more for a whole week?
The film also starred Jack Black and Jude Law, with Jude’s character Graham falling for Amanda, who is staying in his sister’s cottage following a bitter breakup back in Los Angeles.
Amanda is confused as to why Graham keeps mentioning the names Olivia and Sophie, only to discover he is a widowed father of two. The children in the film melt viewers’ hearts with their adorable English accents and affection for their dad – not to mention the unforgettable Mr Napkin scene.
It has now been over 18 years since their standout moment, which means the girls are now all grown up. The actress who played Sophie is unrecognisable today.
We all remember how endearing Sophie was in The Holiday. Miffy Englefied, who portrayed her, is now age 25 and looks entirely different. Unsurprising given she was only a child when the movie first aired!
The Basingstoke-born actress’ real name is actually Rebecca, but she earned her nickname from her parents due to her unruly hair that was always sticking up.
Miffy Englefield, who debuted her acting career with ‘The Holiday’ at the tender age of six, has moved on from her early days in television dramas like ‘Casualty’. She had an honest chat with The New York Times about the challenges of child acting that led to her decision to step away from the spotlight, citing the difficulty for her single father.
Now residing in West Sussex, Miffy’s life has taken new turns. She and partner Alex Whivley-Conway welcomed their daughter Frankie in 2020.
Plus, the child actress has found a fresh passion in creating TikTok content. It ranges from everyday adventures with her toddler, to fashion insights and humorous takes on her past looks, to behind-the-scenes secrets of The Holiday.
Miffy frequently engages with her followers, answering persistent queries regarding her iconic role as Sophie. She cherishes a scrapbook crafted by her dad, which is filled with special mementos including audition emails, photos, boarding passes to the States, and even the movie script detailing a deleted scene she featured in.
Discussing her co-stars, she shared: “The cast were amazing, like it sounds really cliché but there’s not really much to tell because they were all so lovely.
“Obviously playing one of Jude Law’s daughters in the film, he’s the person that we spent the most time with and he was so kind and so patient and just so helpful and told us so so much about acting.”
She labelled Jack Black as hilarious, Kate Winslet as ethereal, and Cameron Diaz as beautiful. Regrettably, Sophie confesses she didn’t maintain contact with any of the cast due to everyone’s hectic schedules.
However, Nancy Meyers, the director of the film, frequently emailed her to check in after the film.
