(WFAA) – A Texas youth detention officer was hospitalized after being severely beaten by teens escaping the facility where she worked.
Christy Galindo says she’s lucky to be alive.
“I do have some bruising to the eye, teeth … I have staples in the back of my head and some stitches in my eye,” she said.
She stood in the way of three teens escaping the Lake Granbury Youth Services Sunday night and in return, was severely beaten.
She says the teens ran out to the recreational yard and she tried to stop them.
“I don’t remember totally everything, but I know that I was hit in the head with the radio. I know there was some blow to my head and trauma to my head, and I was completely out of it after that point,” Galindo said.
The teens, one of which is being held for murder, stole a car, guns, and pulled off an armed robbery at a Dublin gas station but were eventually found in Hutchins, Texas, in an apartment complex after being spotted by police.
Meanwhile, Galindo was flown to a hospital in Fort Worth and was in the ICU until this interview.
And she selflessly has a message for the teens who put her in this room.
“I do thank everyone, the trauma team, the response team,” she said. “What happened to me hurt, but they’ve made a mistake. I forgive you all, and I am praying for you all.”
“I hope that God fulfills the love in the areas that they lack and that they get the love that they need and they succeed in the areas that they need to moving forward,” Galindo said.
Selfless is the only way to describe that message.
Galindo is a mother of two teenagers of her own. Her family like her father David, are also standing by her side.
“My hat goes off to her for being brave,” David Galindo said.
Her family is also raising money for her hospital bills.
“They have me in my room. It’s a nice room, by the way,” Christy Galindo said.
She hopes to be out of the room by Christmas. It’s the last place for someone with a heart so caring.
“At the end of the day, they are still good kids,” she said.
