The King has gratefully acknowledged the “selfless” medical professionals who offered “strength, care and comfort” during his Kate Middleton‘s cancer treatments.
In a touching message to the nation as part of his Christmas speech, the 76-year-old monarch expressed his “heartfelt thanks” to the healthcare teams that assisted both him and his family through trying times marked by health concerns.
The King shared: “From a personal point of view, I offer special, heartfelt thanks to the selfless doctors and nurses who, this year, have supported me and other members of my family through the uncertainties and anxieties of illness, and have helped provide the strength, care and comfort we have needed.”
He added: “I am deeply grateful, too, to all those who have offered us their own kind words of sympathy and encouragement.”
Reflecting on the challenges faced by the nation, Charles also highlighted the “deep sense of pride” he felt in witnessing how communities pulled together following the tragic events in Southport, not only repairing physical structures but also restoring fractured relations in the wake of violence.
Charles, in line with his transparent attitude towards his health, publicly shared his diagnosis in February, hoping to help others by raising awareness however he kept the details of his diagnosis discreet.
During his April visit to University College Hospital Macmillan Cancer Centre in central London, his first public appearance since taking time off following his diagnosis, he openly discussed the “shock” of learning he had cancer.

Footage demonstrated Charles engaging with other cancer sufferers, where he remarked: “All of us go through some form of suffering at some stage in our life, be it mental or physical. The degree to which we help one another and draw support from each other, be we people of faith or of none is a measure of our civilisation as nations.”
The monarch’s medical team is reportedly very happy with the progress he has made. His current treatment is minimal in terms of its effect on his workload, with the first half of 2025 already filled with planned engagements.
