PRINCETON, W.Va. -For the past three years, staff at WVU Medicine Princeton Community Hospital have come together to sing Christmas carols and spread holiday cheer throughout the halls of the hospital for those who need a holiday pick-me-up.
“You know, when someone’s sick and in the hospital during the holidays, it’s a sad, depressing time, and it’s something I’ve done before. I love to sing, and we’ve got our group together and have been singing every, every year at Christmas, and it just brightens the patients,” said Tim Anderson, Chief Nursing Officer for WVU Medicine Princeton Community Hospital.
These staff members want to make sure those who are going through hard times can feel joy during the holiday season and know they’re taken care of.
“It goes along with my personality. I’m a physical therapist and what we do is we just love people, and so it’s just nice to be able to see their smiles,” said Meg Carpenter, Director of Rehabilitation for WVU Medicine Princeton Community Hospital.
Starting the week before Christmas these carolers make their way throughout the hospital spreading cheer for everyone.
“ We go all over the hospital from number one, the inpatient units, because that’s usually where the sicker patients are. Then to our outpatient departments like radiology and lab. Just anybody that’s here visiting or, you know, having a test, we’ll sing to them and try to brighten their day,” continued Anderson.
They’ve even had patients make requests while they make their rounds.
“ We actually sometimes have patients that ask us to come in their room and they’ll ask us to do a certain song and, you know, if we know it, then we sing it,” continued Carpenter.
If you may be interested in joining them for caroling you can call 304-487-7000, ask for Tim Anderson or the Nursing Administration and they can direct you along the Christmas path.
