It was Christmas Day horror after a car ploughed into multiple pedestrians in one of the New York’s busiest areas.
Several people were injured after the car hit people in Herald Square at 6th and West 34th Street just after 4pm, the New York City Police Department (NYPD) said in an update this evening, reports the Mirror. Herald Square is at a major commercial intersection and typically crowded with people. Among nearby shops is the flagship Macy’s store, which is a local hotspot – even on Christmas Day.
Local reports from emergency services stating the car – reportedly a New York cab – mounted the curb and struck a group of pedestrians. The NYPD statement added that several people were taken to area hospitals, where they are in stable condition.
Three people sustained minor injuries, while three others sustained serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. According to local emergency chatter, two women and a child were among those hospitalised with “non-life-threatening injuries” after six people were hit by the cab.
Videos taken at the scene show fire engines at the scene, with crowds of people looming over first responders and others walking nearby as they mill about on the big day.
