PHOENIX, Ariz. (KNXV) – An Arizona woman got the surprise of her life over the holidays last year.
Sandra Weeden was reunited with her adult daughter and met her granddaughter that she did not even know existed.
This holiday season, they are celebrating one year since their special moment.
The relationship between mother and daughter was missing for more than five decades.
Daughter Heidi Wallace said the rebuilt connection is life-changing.
“Go look for your people, there’s nothing like having the wholeness and completeness that I have now,” she said.
IN 1970, Weeden said she felt she had no choice but to give up her newborn child for adoption. She was 17 years old at the time.
“I just wanted the very best in whatever way, whatever capacity that her parents could provide and those wishes have exceeded more than I thought,” she said.
Just last year, granddaughter Azhia-lin reached out to her long lost grandmother after finding a match on ancestry.com.
“Panicking, I think I found your mom and it was just history from there, and now it’s just really cool just now that we have more family,” she said.
The reunion between birth mother, daughter and now granddaughters have touched hearts around the country.
Granddaughter Jacqueline Wallace said the discovery of her grandmother has added so much to her life.
“You can never have too much family, I have all this kind of family, different shades, different types, different colors, everybody’s different and that’s the best thing,” she said.
Weeden and Heidi Wallace reconnected last holiday season and spent the following year learning and sharing with each other.
“I’m just so happy that we have finally got to be able to connect and I look forward to more memories to be made,” Heidi Wallace said.
Heidi Wallace said the best part of rediscovering about her mother was just knowing she exists.
