Raw sewage has spilled onto a section of the M8 in Glasgow.

The section of road at the westbound off-slip at junction 25A remains closed as the carriageway is currently flooded with water. Motorists have been advised to ‘take care on approach’.

The stretch of road has been shut since 8am. Scottish Water said it was currently dealing with a burst sewer main which had caused some “localised flooding”.

Images from the scene show a huge puddle of sewage spilling over the road.

A statement from Traffic Scotland reads: “Lane 2 closed Westbound on Off-Slip at Junction 25A to Braehead due to flooding. Take care on approach and drive to conditions.”

A statement from Scottish Water reads: “Our teams will now work to clear the flooding and begin our investigations to determine the location of the burst sewer main in order to plan and commence with emergency repairs.”
