Oli Shaw hopes to fire Hamilton Accies into the new year on a high against Airdrie but insists the Diamonds’ lowly position in the table won’t let them take anything for granted.

The striker is the Championship’s top scorer with eight goals in 16 games but hasn’t netted in his side’s last two outings, so is keen to get back on the scoresheet today.

However, having been held to a 2-2 draw by the Diamonds when they met at New Douglas Park earlier in the season, Shaw feels Rhys McCabe’s men are in a false position and should be treated with caution, despite them having just one win in 18 games all season.

He said: “In the last couple of games, I haven’t got on the score sheet so I’m looking to change that on Saturday, get back to hitting the net.

“But we know the strengths Airdrie has and the threat they pose at the top end of the pitch.

“They are a good side with a good manager, so we just need to make sure we are at it.

“They came back to draw with us in the first game and they had a few chances against us last time. Even though we beat them 4-0 and we kept a clean sheet, they were still dangerous, caused us problems and on another day they probably would have taken their chances, so we need to be wary of them going forward.

“To get three points would be massive going into the new year.”

Accies themselves are competing at the wrong end of the table right, sitting in eighth. They have a big 12 point lead over Airdrie and also sit 11 points off the promotion play-off places.

Shaw added: “This is another game for us to try and latch onto the teams above us.

“That’s what we’ll be looking to do because we want to be looking up rather than down.”
