A film touted as ‘Wolf of Wall Street meets Catch Me If You Can’ is set to hit the big screen, and fans are already buzzing with anticipation despite its release being a year away. The movie, named Marty Supreme, is slated for a Christmas day premiere next year, but the excitement is already palpable, largely due to the star-studded cast and crew.

The film is co-written and directed by Josh Safdie, known for directing Adam Sandler in the critically acclaimed Netflix film Uncut Gems alongside his brother. The cast includes Timothee Chalamet, Gwyneth Paltrow, Tyler The Creator, and Fran Drescher.

In the film, Chalamet will portray Marty Reisman, a real-life American table tennis champion who won the U. S. singles championship in 1958 and 1960 and was crowned U. S. hardbat champion in 1997. Reisman, who bagged five bronze medals at world championships throughout his career and penned an autobiography titled The Money Player: Confessions of America’s Greatest Table Tennis Champion and Hustler, who died in 2012.

Timothee Chalamet, the star of Dune and Wonka, is set to play Bob Dylan in a new film titled A Complete Unknown, due for release in the UK in January 2025. However, unlike his portrayal of the iconic singer-songwriter, this film will be more of a fictionalised account of real people’s lives rather than a strict biographical narrative.

According to Deadline, it’s being described as a blend of Wolf of Wall Street and Catch Me If You Can, loosely based on the sportsman’s life. Chalamet has already shared some insights about working on the project during an interview with comedian Theo Von on his podcast This Past Weekend. Discussing his career and how audiences can discern when an actor isn’t fully committed on screen, he swiftly shifted the conversation to his work on Marty Supreme, reports the Mirror.

He revealed: “This Safdie movie I just did, man he put me through the ringer. I felt like he was testing me early on. Josh (Safdie) knew me since I was 21.”

The young actor had nothing but praise for the director, even comparing him to some of the greats in cinema. He continued: “Early on we had stuff, the stunt guys on Marty Supreme and I saw him (Safdie) wanting me to do it (the stunts). Part of me is like, this feels like a test and I wanted to show him, and I feel like I’ve emerged from the other side with no broken bones thank God and Josh is the real deal man. Josh Safdie is like the modern day Martin Scorsese.”

Excitement is mounting among fans for the upcoming movie featuring Timothee Chalamet, with some already celebrating his track record with film releases. One enthusiast shared their thoughts online, saying: “Wonka last year, Complete Unknown this year, this movie next year, Dune Messiah *potentially* the year after. Timothee Chalamet is the king of the Christmas release date.”

Another fan expressed their eagerness to see the unexpected cast list in action. They said: “Josh Safdie bringing this cast together with a mix of adventure and comedy? Timothee Chalamet and Tyler the Creator in one film-it’s already a must-watch! Marking my calendar for this.”

There have been debates among others about the possibility of seeing the Barbenheimer phenomenon again if Josh Safdie’s sibling Benny also lands a seasonal release for The Smashing Machine starring Dwayne (The Rock) Johnson, projected for 2025, close to Marty Supremes debut.

Marty Supreme is expected to release in cinemas December 25, 2025.
