Airdrie skipper Adam Frizzell feels his side are ‘lucky’ to be starting 2025 10 points adrift at the foot of the Championship.
It has been a dismal season for the Diamonds so far with one win from 19 games, which came way back on the opening day of the campaign in a 1-0 win over Raith Rovers on August 3.
Airdrie’s pain was pounded on Saturday when they lost 3-2 to derby rivals Hamilton Accies, courtesy of Oli Shaw’s last-gasp winner.
And, despite a host of injuries to key players along the way, midfielder Frizzell says the Monklands men simply haven’t been good enough and are fortunate not to be trailing nearest rivals Dunfermline by a bigger margin.
He said: “The last three or four performances have been good, but we’ve conceded silly goals and come away with one point from 12.
“That is not good enough. We are in a real hole but there are still plenty of games left.
“Remarkably, we are lucky we are only 10 points behind ninth place.
“The months before now were worrying because the performances weren’t there, but I think in the last few games they have been.

“At the turn of the year, hunting down that gap needs to be our aim and hope the goals will start coming, the confidence starts coming, and we’ll see what happens.”
Reflecting on the defeat to Accies, Frizzell admitted it was one of their toughest defeats of the season.
He said: “”It is a real sore one. It felt worse than the game they beat us at home [4-0] because I felt we played well.
“In the first 20 minutes of the second half, we were battering them. We didn’t take our chances and elft ourselves susceptible to conceding.
“Naturally, they gained a bit of control again and I don’t think we were streetwise enough.
“It became a basketball game and they managed to nick it.
“I thought we defended largely well but we didn’t put our chances away.”
