A “cosy” Scottish pod just outside Edinburgh can currently be booked for a last minute New Year’s getaway. Now that the Christmas is over, people all over Scotland will be needing a holiday after the hectic festive season.

Whether you are after a romantic getaway, or are just looking to clear your head, there is no shortage of winter staycation spots. At the moment, a stay for two at the Otters Holt at the foot of the Pentland Hills near Edinburgh can be booked for £392 per night through Airbnb. The popular accommodation is currently available on December 31 and throughout January.

The lodge is part of The Secret Hideaway, which is a private lakeside retreat located around 20 minutes out of the Scottish capital. According to the listing, it offers “incredible views and total tranquility”.

Stepping inside the pod, it features a large bed, a shower, and a Scandinavian hot tub. It also includes underfloor heating and a bluetooth sound system, as well as wireless mobile phone charging.

Outside, the lodge also has a private outdoor deck with table and chairs. It offers sweeping views out over the surrounding water and hills.

The Otters Holt currently has an average rating of 4.93 out of five on Airbnb. The accommodation is classed as a ‘guest favourite’, meaning it is among “the most loved homes” on the website based on guest feedback.

One recent visitor shared: “Otters Holt was such a breath of fresh air. Being able to be close enough to the city of Edinburgh to enjoy the amenities but far enough away that you feel like you are in the middle of the country is so unique.

“The Pod is actually quite spacious inside and the hot tub was a great treat for a cold Scottish day. Will definitely be back!”

“Really really nice recommend to all,” a second Airbnb user wrote, while a third commented: “Very clean, cosy modern pods with beautiful surroundings although quite expensive.”

Meanwhile, a slightly less positive four-star review reads: “Overall, we really enjoyed our short but sweet stay at Otter’s Holt. The pods are well maintained, and exactly as described.”

If you are looking for a less expensive or more traditional getaway in the area, there are plenty of other accommodation options nearby. These include the four-star Craigie Hotel and the family-run Navaar House Hotel.
