BLUEFIELD, W.Va. – A high-speed chase that started in Bluefield last week and ended on I-77 with speeds exceeding 100 mph has left two people facing felony charges, including child endangerment.

Eric Adam Robinson, 29, and Jorgia Nelson, both of Bluefield, face numerous charges after the chase, which began on Dec. 22 after their car was being pulled over for a defective headlight on Cherry Street.

According to the criminal complaint, Bluefield Police Department Officer D.W. Lester initiated the stop but the driver, who was later identified as Robinson, refused to stop, made a right turn onto Stadium Driver at a high rate of speed and almost struck several cars by the Holiday of Lights before turning onto College Avenue, Leatherwood and then Rt. 460.

The complaint said speeds exceeded 100 mph on Rt. 460 eastbound and on John Nash Boulevard as the car made its way to I-77, taking the Wytheville exit. Bluefield Police ended the chase at that point and the West Virginia State Police took over and stopped the car after a short pursuit on I-77.

Robinson and Nelson were arrested and taken into custody. Their 4-year-old child was also in the car and was turned over to the appropriate authorities.

Lester also said in the complaint that Nelson said she had thrown an AR-style rifle out of the car on the I-77 entrance ramp. The weapon, which was recovered, was loaded with a round in the chamber, buttstock removed and a 60-round drum style magazine inserted.

Robinson is charged with one count felony fleeing from an officer with reckless indifference, one count felony child neglect creating risk of injury or death, one count felony prohibited person possessing a firearm and one count conspiracy against the state. He is free on a $30,000 bond

Nelson is charged with one count of possessing a controlled substance with intent to deliver and one count of conspiracy against the state. She is free on a $10,000 bond.
