Michelle Keegan’ssharp words about Mark Wright and Lauren Goodger’s formertumultuous romance have emerged again, in light of Mark and Michelle announcing their baby joy last week.
TOWIE stars Mark Wright and Lauren Goodger were an item off and on for approximately 12 years before they finally called it quits for good in 2012.
Post-breakup, a devastated Lauren watched as her ex swiftly moved on to Coronation Street star Michelle Keegan. Within a mere three years, Mark and Michelle tied the knot, while Lauren still cites Mark as ‘the love of her life’.
Over the nine years since Michelle became Mrs. Wright, the rivalry with Lauren has only intensified. Lauren has openly spoken about how profoundly their parting affected her, confessing that it “broke” her and instilled a fear of being incapable of loving again, the Mirror reports.
However, Lauren isn’t alone in voicing her feelings; Michelle has also flung barbs at her husband’s ex in bygone days. Casting our minds back to 2011, Michelle targeted Lauren and Mark, who were then betrothed, in her Love It! magazine column: “I love TOWIE! It’s one of those shows you don’t want to watch, but just can’t help turning on.
“I don’t know how Lauren can take Mark back so easily, though – it’s so cringe! I wouldn’t be able to get back with someone who’d slept with lots of girls I knew, but that’s just me.”
While the comments were made before Michelle Keegan and Mark Wright got together in 2012, they have resurfaced. More drama ensued in 2014 when Lauren Goodger responded to an ‘Ask Me Anything’ on social media, claiming she made the ‘Wright choice over Mark’.

This prompted Mark to tweet his ex angrily: “It’s been well over 2 years and it still continues. I find it so disrespectful to myself but more importantly, my fiancé. Be a proper woman. Please leave me out of your public conversations, stop embarrassing yourself. Start having some respect and MOVE ON. “
Mark and Michelle have been happily married for almost a decade and while they’ve largely been focusing on their careers and building their mega mansion in Essex, they’ve decided to take their relationship to the next level in 2025 as they prepare to welcome their first child.
The couple’s happy news follows years of intrusive speculation from fans and family members about if and when the two stars would start a family together. Taking to Instagram to announce the news on Sunday, December 29 Michelle shared a photo of her cradling her baby bump on the beach with Mark looking on with the caption: “2025 is going to be a special one for us… [baby emoji. love heart emoji]”.
Mark’s brother Josh was quick to express his joy as news of Michelle’s pregnancy spread on Sunday, commenting: “Over the moon for you both and can’t wait for our boys to meet your little one.”
Similarly thrilled, Mark’s mother shared her excitement about her impending grandchild by posting the couple’s announcement photo on her own Instagram, declaring she was “super excited”. The actress has never shied away from discussing her family aspirations.
Back in 2018, during a chat with Women’s Health, she had disclosed: “I’ve always been broody. I love kids, and I want four, so hopefully in the near future.”
During a conversation with Heart in 2019, Mark spoke about wanting to fully embrace travel before parenthood. Although keen to start a family, stating they were already “excited” for it, he admitted at that point he wasn’t “quite there yet”, wanting to ensure he had explored enough of the world before introducing a new life into it.
