Tony Docherty haș confirmed Dundee have struck an agreement with Burnley to keep winger Oluwaseun Adewumi for the second half of the season.

The Austrian under-21 international’s loan is up next month but the Dark Blues boss admitted there is a verbal agreement in place to extend that. Dundee and Burnley have a strategic partnership and the paperwork is set to be put in place over the next week or two. Docherty said: “We are in constant talks with our recruitment team and we are in constant talks with Burnley as well. Adewumi is fine and continuing to play. There hasn’t been any paperwork done on it but we have assurances that Adewumi will be with us. That is fantastic news for us. You are now seeing Seun is a really talented player.

“There were a lot of really good performances the other night but I think he has grown and grown with each game. I can see the relationship now between him and the fans. I have always said the Dundee fans recognise good players. They are very much behind Seun and there is a brilliant relationship there.

“Seun responds to that. We are seeing the real development of a top footballer but we need to remember he is a young man and needs all the help he can get. The help he is getting from the fans and staff can only help him to continue to put in the level of performances he is putting in and improving.”

Sean Kelly is also out of contract after Thursday’s derby and talks are on-going over his future, while Docherty is hoping for clearance for new signing Cesar Garza to get clearance to make his debut. “We are waiting for his clearance because the window isn’t open yet,” Docherty stated. “All the paperwork has been done and he has been training with the squad and looking good. “He is another, fingers crossed, who will be available.”

Dundee are already without Clark Robertson, Joe Shaughnessy, Antonio Portales and Scott Fraser. He is also still waiting to find out the extent of Billy Koumetio and Jordan McGhee’s injury after they came off in the win over St Mirren.

Docherty confirmed: “We are still awaiting the results of the scans of these two. Obviously, going off after 20 minutes, it is difficult and quite unprecedented the injuries we have picked up and in the areas of the team. That is seven injuries and five of them are centre halves. We are still waiting for information on that.”
