The West Lothian Food Train welcomed a government minister who was there to see the incredible work the charity does in the community.

Angela Constance, the Cabinet Secretary for Justice and Home Affairs, met with the organisation’s chief executive Rosie McLuskie as well as dedicated team members Chris, Lorna, and Helen.

During her visit, she expressed her gratitude for the invaluable work the Food Train does.

West Lothian Food Train is preparing to celebrate its 30th anniversary. This esteemed charity has been instrumental in supporting older people across Scotland, offering members essential practical assistance to eat well, age well, and live well at home for longer.

The charity operates its delivery services on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, working closely with hospitals.

They provide a minibus service for those who can travel to shops but require assistance, alongside offering café visits, a free library service, and a befriending service with speakers and games.

Their at-home service supports tasks like changing light bulbs or curtains, significantly helping families by “giving time back for families.”

With a small team of 85 volunteers, the Food Train requires 25 volunteers each day to reach everyone in need across West Lothian.

The organisation continues to make a profound impact throughout the region.

Ms Constance, who is also the MSP for Almond Valley, praised the dedication of the volunteers and staff.

She said: “The West Lothian Food Train is a beacon of hope and support in our community. Their commitment to helping older people live independently and with dignity is truly inspiring.

“I encourage everyone to support their noble work.”
