The Rig’s chilling discoveries at sea continue this week with a brand new season streaming on Prime Video.

All six episodes are now available for subscribers, returning the crew of the Kinloch Bravo to their breathtaking investigation into a mysterious supernatural entity.

At the end of the first season, Rose Mason (played by Emily Hampshire), Magnus MacMillan (Iain Glen) and Fulmer Hamilton (Martin Compston) are flown away from the wreckage of their Scottish oil rig to continue their research elsewhere.

Having clashed with scheming company executive David Coake (Mark Addy), he now takes over the next stage of their investigation at a secret facility known as the Stac, hidden deep within the Arctic Circle.

A synopsis reads: “Here, the trapped crew must deal with the emotional and physical fallout of the devastating tsunami that destroyed the Bravo, and contend with swirling conspiracies, corporate conflicts, and new threats from the dark depths of the world’s ocean.”

Season two of The Rig promises plenty of drama amongst the crew as well as gripping set pieces as the team adapts to their deadly new surroundings.

But, will The Rig have a third season?

While the ending of the second outing is being kept under wraps, there’s a strong possibility it will leave several loose ends untied for a potential third season to pick up later.

Speaking exclusively to Screen Time and other press, series stars Glen, Hampshire and Rochenda Sandall, who portrays Cat Braithwaite, were all keen to return for more.

Sandall exclaimed: “We’d always like to come back!” To which Glen agreed: “We would love to come back.

“In all honesty, we really love doing it. We think there’s more story to tell, you know.

“The fact is it’ll go and hopefully people love it as much as they did the first season, and if they do I think we’ll be back for a third.”

And Hampshire added: “It is all dependent on… What’s hard now is there’s so much television so it doesn’t even matter how great it is, because it actually is really great.

“Which doesn’t always happen. But, people have to find it and they have to be motivated to watch it. Just… make them do it! Make them watch it and then love it so we can come back to Scotland.”

Although a third season is currently up in the air, Glen suggested the positive response to the first six episodes should be a strong indicator for the drama’s future.

“If you start watching it I don’t think you can leave it,” he explained. “They call these things ‘completion rates’ when people start watching it, and that’s what happened with The Rig [season] one.

“It’s just really good storytelling by David [Macpherson], it’s very compelling to find out what’s unfolding. So, hopefully people start watching it.”

Prime Video currently has not confirmed whether or not The Rig will continue after season two at the time of writing.

However, the follow-up was announced just a month after the first season dropped in January 2023, so fans shouldn’t have to wait long to find out if the Bravo crew will be back.

The Rig season 2 is available to stream on Prime Video.
