OZARK, Mo. (KY3/Gray News ) – A woman found her horse dead in her field less than a week before Christmas.

This is just one of the many cases of animal abuse plaguing the Ozarks recently.

Alisha Pruitt said she found her horse Spike shot dead on December 19. The bullet was found lodged in Spike’s neck.

Pruitt is not sure if Spike was shot intentionally or if it was an accident, but she just wants whoever did it to come forward.

She also said Spike was very close to her children, especially her 14-year-old daughter. Pruitt is thankful the bullet didn’t hit one of her kids.

“It’s devastating for a child, especially when they have a bond with an animal. They are more of a family. They’re not just an animal. So when you take that from somebody, you’re taking a person from that household,” Pruitt said.

Pruitt’s other horse is named Max, who is Spike’s brother. Max is now left roaming the field alone without his sibling.

She is currently talking with law enforcement to file a police report and hopefully find out who did this to her horse.
