Award winning actor Colin Firth leads the cast of a tragic drama on the harrowing Lockerbie disaster.

Lockerbie: A Search for Truth sees Dr. Jim Swire (Colin Firth) become a spokesperson for the victims’ families as he tries to understand and investigate the deadly plane crash that killed 270 people in the Scottish town.

The new five-part series explores events from the disaster and its aftermath and provides an intimate account of a man, a husband, and a father who risks everything in memory of his daughter Flora and the unflinching pursuit of truth and justice.

Lockerbie: A Search for Truth will air on Sky Atlantic on January 2, 2025. The series will also be available to watch on NOW in the UK and Ireland.

Oscar winning actor Colin Firth plays Dr Jim Swire, a doctor and family man who becomes a central spokesperson for the victims’ families following the explosion of Flight 103. His daughter, Flora, was killed in the explosion.

Colin Firth won an Oscar for his portrayal of King George VI in The King’s Speech and he has also appeared in the Kingsman films, Pride and Prejudice, Bridget Jones films, A Single Man, 1917 and Operation Mincemeat.

Jane Swire is the wife of Jim Swire and mother to Flora. Jane joined her husband in the fight for justice and answers in the 35-year investigation that unfolded after the Lockerbie bombing.

Actress Catherine McCormack previously appeared in Braveheart, Temple and Slow Horses as well as Sherlock and 28 Weeks Later.

Sam Troughton plays Murray Guthrie, a fictional local journalist who rushes to the scene in the first episode. Sam’s brother is The Archers star William Troughton, and his grandfather is Patrick Troughton – the second star to take on the role of Doctor Who.

The actor has also appeared in Litvinenko, Vera Drake, Hex and The Lazarus Project.

Mark Bonnar as Roderick McGill

Roderick McGill is played by Scottish actor Mark Bonnar.

His first roles were one-off parts in esteemed crime dramas including Taggart, Rebus, and Wire In The Blood, with later roles in Shetland, Guilt, The Rig, Litvinenko, and Operation Mincemeat.

Ardalan Esmaili as Abdulbaset al-Megrahi

Abdulbaset al-Megrahi was one of two men named as perpetrators of the Lockerbie bombing. A Libyan national suspected of being an intelligence agent, his arrest and call for a trial became an international situation which the United Nations even played a role in.

Eventually found guilty at trial, al-Megrahi consistently protested his innocence, and would spend the rest of his life trying to clear his name.

The actor previously appeared in Grey Zone andDeliver Me.

Muda Abbara as Al Amin Khalifa Fhimah

Muda Abbara plays Al Amin Khalifa Fhimah, who is the second man initially named as one of the terrorists behind the Lockerbie bombing. Believed to be an intelligence agent for Libya, he was later cleared of all charges and allowed to return home.

Mudar Abbara has also appeared in The Swimmers and In Another Life.

Guy Henry as Paul Channon

The former MP was the Secretary of State for Transport for the Conservative government in power at the time of the Lockerbie bombing. Labour MP John Prescott heavily criticised him for choosing to go on holiday with his family shortly after the attack took place and Channon later was sacked.

Guy Henry has also appeared in Holby City, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Harry Potter films and Extras.

Nabil Al Raee as Colonel Gaddafi

Muammar Muhammad Abu Minyar al-Gaddafi was a Libyan politician and revolutionary, who ruled over Libya from 1969. The divisive figure helped Libya become known for sponsoring international terrorist groups, with an ongoing conflict between Gaddafi and US President Ronald Reagan.

Al Raee is a relative unknown actor who also starred in The Teacher and 200 Meters.
