Dumfries and Galloway is set to be hit by an icy blast later today.
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for icy conditions, which will come into effect on Thursday evening and last until Friday morning.
It is likely to cause problems for anyone who is out walking and could also have an impact on travel.
A Met Office forecaster said: “Scattered wintry showers will be replaced by a longer spell of rain and sleet for a time on Thursday night, particularly across western Scotland and Northern Ireland. As temperatures dip below freezing, this will lead to a risk of ice formation on untreated surfaces, especially inland.
“Keep yourself and your family safe when it is icy. Plan to leave the house at least five minutes earlier than normal. Not needing to rush, reduces your risk of accidents, slips, and falls.
“If you need to make a journey on foot, try to use pavements along main roads which are likely to be less slippery. Similarly, if cycling, try and stick to main roads which are more likely to have been treated.
“Give yourself the best chance of avoiding delays by checking road conditions if driving, or bus and train timetables, amending your travel plans if necessary.”
The weather warning will come into effect at 5pm on Thursday evening and last until 10am on Friday morning.
