Free agent Ryan Kent will reportedly be offered a return to Rangers, according to reports in Turkey,
The winger saw his big-money contract at Fenerbahce ripped up just 16 months after leaving the Scottish Premiership behind having barely featured for the Turkish giants since his Ibrox exit. Boss Philippe Clement confessed last year that he was an admirer of the Englishman having attempted to snap him up while in charge of Club Brugge – and several outlets in Turkey now claim that the boss is set to make a move to sign the wide man again which has set social media alight.
Kontraspor claim that the 27-year-old has the offer of a six-month deal on the table with the option of a one-year extension as he looks to kickstart his career. Guven Gazetesi claim that the forward is “keen” on returning to his former club as he looks to kickstart his career.
The murmur has split the Ibrox faithful on social media. One fan said: “Ryan Kent’s quality for nothing in January would be a good addition. Particularly as we need more options in wide positions.” Another chimed in: “Normally I’d be against it but with a limited budget, Kent in.”
One punter was more pessimistic: “Kent on his day was unplayable and a great watch. But that was few and far between. His off days he was a frustrating empty jersey. Give him a 6months contract with a club option of a year and make him prove he wants to come back.”
It remains to be seen if the rumour mill is proven correct, but the man himself would likely be open to a return given the affection he has shown for the club. After leaving Rangers at the end of his contract in 2023, he dropped a hint that he would be open to a return after admitted he would always carry the club with him.
He further admitted he would keeping close tabs on his former side this term. Kent wrote on social media: “Thank you to all the Rangers fans. My time at Ibrox is something I will remember for the rest of my life. To all my team-mates, management team and backroom staff past and present, thank you for everything and I’ll miss you all.
“Now it is time for me to begin an exciting new chapter in my career and continue my footballing journey as a player elsewhere. But I will forever carry Rangers in my heart. I look forward to cheering you on to success in the SPFL next season. Simply The Best.”
