Scots actress Karen Gillan has taken to Instagram to share the first snaps of her baby girl after becoming a mother last year.

The Inverness born star welcomed her first child with her husband Nick Kocher in 2024 and took to social media yesterday to share some adorable pictures of her daughter with fans as well as the unusual name they decided on.

Uploading a carousel of images of the newborn, Karen wrote the caption: “2024 thank you for giving us Clementine.”

The Galaxy of the Guardians star and her hubby actor look thrilled in the images as they cradled their beautiful daughter. Meanwhile in another, the couple could be seen posing as they held up their ‘Best Mum Ever’ and ‘Best Dad Ever’ mugs.

Never one to miss a joke, the 37-year-old’s last slide showed a picture of her having a C-section and an amusing clip of her singing the Shakira song Whenever, Wherever.

The second half of her caption explained: “Also as per the last slide – I shot a film called ‘Let’s Have Kids’ right as I got preggo in real life so take that Daniel Day Lewis.”

Karen’s followers were delighted as they rushed to the comment section to respond to the sweet post.

One wrote: “Clementine is the cutest name I love her.” However, many other fans were disappointed that the star didn’t name her baby something entirely difference in reference to her stint as Amy Pond on Doctor Who between 2010 and 2012.

The Scottish actress found fame playing the role of the Doctor’s companion, in his eleventh incarnation, as actor Matt Smith.

In the series, she marries Rory Williams and they have a daughter together named Melody before later discovering that her daughter is actually the Doctor’s wife, River Song, who is displaced in time.

A Doctor Who fan commented: “You missed a trick not calling her Melody” while another chimed in: “Melody Ponds???” A third replied: “Be careful Amy. She might try to kill the doctor again. She is River Song.”

Karen announced the news of her pregnancy on Instagram in September last year with multiple snaps of her showcasing her baby bump on the red carpet at The Life of Chuck Premiere in Canada.

While the actual birth date of baby Clementine is not known, the Jumanji actress kept her followers updated with her pregnancy throughout as she previously shared her “weird” food cravings, including some Scottish favourites which were harder to come by now that she lives in the US.

In multiple TikTok videos, she revealed she had been eating lots of raw vegetables and lots of different types of quiche.

However, she also had a sweet tooth for a certain Scottish biscuit, admitting that digestives were “all I can think about” despite having “never liked” them before at any point during her life.

Karen is very proud of her Scottish roots and returned to her home country to tie the knot with her American hubby Nick at Castle Toward near Dunoon in Argyll in May 2022.

However, the couple currently reside in the US after the actress relocated there in 2013. Despite this, Karen insists that she will always consider Inverness to be her home and has plans to return there some day.

Previously speaking on the Radio Times Podcast in June, Gillan said: “I’m homesick every single day of my life. I think there’s a possibility that I’ll come back at some point. I’ve made my house very Scottish-looking; it doesn’t feel like I’m in LA at all. It reminds me of a granny’s home in Scotland.”
