Scotland is facing heavy snow over the coming days. Weather maps are forecasting lots of the white stuff across the country over the weekend and beyond.
And as the mercury drops, savvy shoppers are snapping up a ‘soft and cosy’ heated blanket from Debenhams in an attempt to keep warm while giving the central heating a break. The throw, which is almost half price in the retailer’s January sale, costs just 5p an hour to run.
The Ezysleep Heated Over Throw Fleece Blanket is now a steal at £31.99, down from its original price of £59.99, a whopping 48 per cent off the RRP. With a warm lining and adjustable controls for heat distribution, it’s flying off in the massive sale.

Measuring 160 by 120cm, it’s large enough to snuggle under on the sofa or bed during colder nights. The self-operating heat settings feature an LED display, heat and timer settings, ensuring it switches off at the set time to prevent overheating while you sleep.
Plus, compared to cranking up the thermostat in winter, it costs mere pennies to run. The average large electric blanket uses between 150W and 200W when set on a medium to high heat.
These statistics from Uswitch, were then put through energy calculator Sus-it to tell you how much it’ll use before you buy. And it’s 5p for every hour, if you had it on a high setting using an average of 200W per 60 minutes, reports the Mirror.
As winter approaches and heating bills rise, energy efficiency becomes a top priority for many households. This is why cosy devices are readily available from retailers such as Amazon, Lakeland and Argos.
One recent customer praised the blanket, saying: “Love this blanket, so soft and cosy. Cheaper than putting the heating on for the whole house just for 1 person in 1 room.”
The low running cost isn’t the only advantage of this fleece-lined blanket. It’s also machine washable, thanks to its easily detachable power cord and control – a crucial feature given the UK’s long, cold winters.
Another satisfied customer who bought multiple blankets said: “We bought two of these and what a game changer they are. We have one each and use while watching TV on an evening. We start at number 6 and soon drop the temperature down low to stay toasty warm. Fabulous product.”
A third customer was pleased with the quick delivery and the blanket’s warmth, adding that it automatically turns off after a while, making it safe if forgotten to be turned off. However, one slightly disappointed shopper did mention that the controls were “not exactly intuitive”.
