Outlander fans are preparing for the worst as a sneak peek at the next episode of season seven has teased a tragic outcome for the Frasers.

In the new clip, shared on the Starz series’ official Instagram page, Claire Fraser (played by Caitriona Balfe) and Rachel Hunter (Izzy Meikle-Small) discuss their fears about the upcoming battle.

Claire is stricken with worry that her husband Jamie (Sam Heughan) will lose his life in the war, having already believed him to be dead earlier in the season.

“I’m not afraid of death, Rachel,” she says. “What scares me is knowing that Jamie will go beyond the call of duty, and may lose his life because of it.”

“And thee would be stabbed through the heart, but still alive,” Rachel replies.

While Rachel is also terrified of losing her husband Ian Murray (John Bell), but for a rather different reason.

“I’m afraid Ian would hesitate to do what must be done and be killed because of me,” she admits. “It would be my fault he was gone, and I would be left alone with my principles.”

Claire comforts her: “That’s the trouble with all of us. We’re all just doing what we believe in our hearts must be done.”

Could this foreboding scene be a hint that either Jamie or Ian will sacrifice themselves for the revolution? Or is Claire perhaps predicting her own demise? Fans took to the comments with their fears for the last two episodes.

“Bracing myself for this,” one person wrote, adding a broken heart emoji.

Outlander’s account responded ominously: “If there were seatbelts for emotional rollercoasters, I’d be wearing one.”

And another comment read: “I’m ready! Okay…maybe not!”

Someone else replied: “Lots of ugly tears will be shed in this episode..please protect Jamie & Claire.”

“This is going to hurt,” another fan said, and a fourth predicted: “Well, we know something bad will happen now….”

And a final fan wrote: “Yeah, I don’t think we’re ready for this episode.”

An enticing synopsis for the episode reads: “Claire is in danger as the American Revolution reaches the pivotal Battle of Monmouth.

“Lord John Grey and Ian race to save William (Charles Vandervaart). Brianna (Sophie Skelton) makes an important decision.”

With just two episodes left of Outlander’s seventh season, should fans prepare to say an emotional goodbye to some of their favourite characters?

Outlander season seven part two continues Fridays on MGM+ via Prime Video in the UK and on Starz in the US.
