Michael van Gerwen is facing a potential fine after a humble x-rated response following his World Darts Championship semi-final triumph.

The Dutchman waltzed into his seventh final after dismantling Chris Dobey 6-1 on Thursday evening at Ally Pally. MVG took just 49 minutes to seal his spot in Friday’s grand showcase against teenage sensation Luke Littler. If he is to lift the Sid Waddell Trophy again at Alexandra Palace he will only be behind Phil Taylor (16) and national compatriot Raymond van Barneveld (five) on the number of world titles glamming up his mantlepiece.

However, after his Dobey victory the 35-year-old got a little too excited when he was in front of the Sky Sport TV mic. Van Gerwen blurted: “We are not even close to winning (a fourth title) yet. The target is still far away – I’m only in the final but I’ve won f*** all yet, so I need to make sure I do it in the final. This is my passion, this is my life, and I really enjoyed it tonight.”

Van Gerwen is likely to be fined by the Darts Regulation Authority for his x-rated word vomit. But who can blame him after such a superb performance. Nonetheless if he is to be punished the financial penalty is expected to pale in comparison to the winner’s £500,000 jackpot – if he managed to land a fourth title. Sky Sports were forced to quickly apologise after Michael van Gerwen swore live on air.
