A man has been charged after a car was stopped by Police Scotland officers on a busy Scots street – with the cops involved allegedly finding “potentially dangerous Items” inside.

The 55-year-old was detained after a vehicle stop in Glasgow yesterday evening. Police Scotland confirmed the operation, which led to the street being locked down, Glasgow Live reports.

The man was charged in connection with road traffic offences and the items found within were assessed and found to be safe during the incident on Friday, January 3.

Glasgow Live reports images show the car can be seen static on the road with its doors, boot and bonnet open while police stand guard at each end of the cordon.

An eye-witness told Glasgow Live that the road was closed in both directions and no one was allowed near the area. The area was later reopened to motorists and pedestrians. The man will be reported to the Procurator Fiscal.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “A 55-year-old man has been charged in connection with road traffic offences after a car was stopped by officers on Great Western Road in Glasgow around 6.30pm on Friday, 3 January, 2024.

“Potentially dangerous items were found within the car during the incident and a cordon was put in place as a precaution. The items were assessed and were found to be safe. The man will be reported to the Procurator Fiscal.”
