Samuel Jones, a reporter at our sister title The Mirror, took the plunge and bought the Shark CarpetXpert and he was left “amazed” by the results. He said: “I gave this cleaner a whirl on my own carpets, which were showing signs of wear and tear due to my dog, and I must say, I was thoroughly impressed.

“Out of the box, it resembles a vacuum cleaner, albeit slightly heavier. It comes with five attachments for the StainStriker tube, as well as a bottle of StainStriker and CarpetXpert cleaning formula. The setup process is pretty straightforward, with a handy instruction manual to guide you through it.”

For those that are more tech-savvy, Samuel revealed that there is a QR code with the Shark CarpetXpert that can be scanned to access ‘how to’ videos for the set-up. He added: “Attaching the tube is simple, and filling up the tanks is self-explanatory – just make sure to put the correct liquid in each compartment, plug it in, and you’re ready to go.”

Samuel was stunned after his first use of the carpet cleaner. He said: “When I first emptied the dirty water tank, I was simultaneously shocked, repulsed, and amazed. A huge clump of hair had gathered in the filter section, surrounded by grimy water (I’ll spare you the picture as it’s a bit unpleasant).

“I vacuum my carpets frequently, but I was taken aback by the sheer amount of dog hair that had built up – and equally impressed by how easily the Shark removed it. Each time I emptied the tank, I was astonished by the huge amount of hair that must have been hidden deep within the carpet fibres, which even a powerful vacuum hadn’t been able to shift.”

Shark claim that the CarpetXpert removes “three times more pet hair than any upright carpet cleaner” and it “instantly removes stains and odours with 20 times more stain striking power”. But one thing that “fell short” for Samuel was the hose.

He said that the design, which is meant to see it wrap around the carpet cleaner was “flawed”. He added: “I found the hose kept detaching as I moved the machine around. After it happened a few times, it became frustrating, so I ended up disconnecting it while using the main body of the machine and only reattaching it when I needed the StainStriker tool.”

Samuel also feels the tank “is on the smaller side” so customers shouldn’t “expect to clean [their] entire house in one go”. He added: “You’ll need to refill it with water and cleaning solution fairly often, as well as empty the dirty water tank.”
