A popular Dumfries and Galloway bistro offering stunning views of the Solway is set to close to the public.
Husband and wife Duncan and Vicki McConchie have taken the “far from easy decision” to close Gather, part of their Laggan hospitality business near Gatehouse, to the public at the end of business January 26.
After that, it only be available to wedding parties and guests and those attending ticketed or private events.
Laggan’s other ventures – GG’s Yard wedding venue, Sea View Snugs and The Murray Arms Hotel in Gatehouse, will continue to operate.
In a video shared to Laggan’s Facebook page, Mrs McConchie said: “It is with great exasperation that we bring news of changes here at Laggan.
“Due to pressure enforced by the government and continuing strains within the hospitality industry we are restructuring the business to ensure it remains resilient and balanced going forward.
“We appreciate your understanding and if the strain on rural and seasonal hospitality businesses ease in the future we may be able to reverse these changes.
“Until such times all we can do is move forward with renewed focus and continued passion.”
Gather opened in the autumn of 2020, just as Laggan Outdoor Activity Centre closed its doors for good.
The floor to ceiling windows offered spectacular views over the Solway and surrounding landscape.
Mr McConchie said: “Our rural destination will become an exclusive use for all weddings and events hosted at Laggan, where Gather can still be enjoyed for breakfast and private dining during these events.
“Outwith wedding and event bookings Gather will be available for private event hire and seasonal ticketed events only.
“This has been far from an easy decision and we would like to thank all our customers who have shown us loyal support over the years.
“We celebrate the great things that Gather has achieved by not only bringing people together but through our charity of the month initiative.
“It is through the combined contributions from Gather customers and our business that’s helped raise over £28,500 for fantastic local charities so we thank you.
“We are proud of our wider values and hope this reflects the heart of who we really are.”
