The age-old debate of whether it’s better to shower in the morning or evening has been a hot topic in the world of hygiene.

While there’s no definitive answer, most people have a preferred time of day. Now a dermatologist known as Dr Dray has taken to TikTok to share her professional view on the matter, discussing what she believes is the best time to shower for skin health.

She began her video by responding to another creator who claimed that not showering in the evenings is ‘nasty’. Dr Dray responded: “I’m not gonna go as far as to call you nasty, but there are definite perks for your skin, allergy symptoms, to shower at night.”

The guru then encouraged her viewers to consider switching to evening showers, particularly those suffering from seasonal allergies like hay fever, as pollen can settle on your skin or hair throughout the day.

“And that can contribute to allergy flare ups,” she explained, before adding: “One of the perks of bathing that people don’t appreciate is that it’s essentially a form of light exfoliation. It kicks off all of these clumps of dead cells that need to be shed.

“If you don’t shower at night, you end up shedding that into your bed linen. And guess who loves that. Dust mites. Which again, are another problem for those of you with allergies.”

Despite Dr Dray outlining her reasons for advocating evening showers or baths, many remain sceptical about altering their daily routines.

One individual said in the comments: “My controversial take is that I can always tell when people are only night showerers…” Another person added: “Much nastier putting on clothes after sweating for 8 hours in a bed. I prefer to be clean when I meet other people.”

Some users, however, defended the practice of night-time bathing, with one stating: “I started showering before bed because it’s relaxing. I no longer dread getting up in the morning because this chore has already been done.”

Another questioned people who shower in the day: “How does anyone get into their clean sheets at night with the day still on you?”
