Update: Suspect arrested in Lashmeet shooting

MERCER COUNTY, W.Va. – According to a press release from the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department, a suspect has been arrested in connection with a shooting that occurred this morning in Mercer County.

Ashton Drewes, 18, of Beeson was arrested on charges of malicious wounding and wanton endangerment.

Drewes allegedly shot the victim in the chest during a domestic incident on Beeson Road in Mercer County.

The suspect has been transported to Southern Regional Jail where he is awaiting arraignment.

The investigation is being led by Corporal M.T. Hatfield and Deputy Printer.

A man was taken to Princeton Community Hospital with a gunshot wound on the morning of January 6.

According to Chief Deputy J.J. Ruble with the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department, the shooting occurred around 10 a.m. on Monday.

Deputies were dispatched to a home on Beeson Road in Lashmeet. Upon arrival, they found a man with a gunshot wound. After a preliminary investigation, it was determined to be a domestic situation.

At this time, one person has been detained for questioning. Ruble says the victim is currently in serious but stable condition.

More details are set to be released soon in the ongoing investigation.
