Andy Halliday reckons Rangers fans will go ‘f****** mental’ if Patrick Stewart’s transfer address hits a bum note.
Philippe Clement revealed that the new CEO is set to address the media over the club’s January plans with the Ibrox men currently trying to deal with a defensive crisis. The Belgian has made it clear he would like to add reinforcements this month with winter trading already heading into an eighth day. Players are expected to arrive and depart Govan in the coming weeks, but former midfielder Halliday – now plying his trade at Motherwell – reckons there would be major backlash if the club come out and deliver bad news.
He’s also tipped TWO Premiership rivals he would go and grab on pre-contracts right now. He described one as an ‘athletic monster’ and has used Luke McCowan’s role at Celtic as an example to follow for the duo who could provide proper squad depth and do well for the team, while also knowing the league and the way the game is in the Scottish Premiership.
Speaking to Open Goal, Halliday said: “It’s a sad state of affairs that it is in January when you’re saying this, but the league is done. The league has been done for a while. They just need to just prepare a squad, whether it’s depth, quality, whatever it may be. Line up players for the summer and try to do as much business as they can.
“I seen Clement saying the new chairman boy Patrick Stewart is going to address the media about what is going to happen in January. See if they come out and say they are not signing players? The fans will go f*****g mental. Honestly, mental.
“Pre contracts! I will tell you two players I would sign right now. Lyall Cameron and Josh Mulligan. Honestly, I would sign the two of them. Mulligan is an athletic monster, I am signing him in a minute. I am signing the two of them on pre-contracts.
“[Nils Koppen] mentioned homegrown talent. The likes of Mulligans and Lyall Camerons, I’m not saying signing them is going to win Rangers the league. But see what Luke McCowan is doing for Celtic? See your [Kieran] Dowell minutes and boys like that, get these two boys to give you proper squad depth, they will play games and do well for you.”
