Ally McCoist has quipped he would take Elon Musk at Rangers amid Liverpool links making the headlines.
His father Errol made the stunning claim that his son would be interested in purchasing the Premier League leaders, although no offers have been put on the table for the Fenway Sports Group to consider. They’ve previously looked for outside investment but a full sale of the club they purchased back in 2010 has never been on the agenda.
The hot topic story caught the attention of Alan Brazil and McCoist on the talkSPORT breakfast show as they discussed the shock links. The punditry favourite and Light Blues hero even delivered a witty remark over where he would rather the wealthiest man in the world put his money. He joked: “Just for the record I’d take him at Rangers for a season OK? It is a shambles really, it cannot be a story.”
The idea of Musk purchasing Liverpool may well seem highly unlikely but Celtic-daft Brazil wouldn’t rule it out. He namechecked two EFL sides as he stated: “But you see what happened at Wrexham and at Birmingham – you just don’t know these days.”
McCoist replied: “What it might do is it might guarantee Salah, van Dijk, and Trent getting their money right enough and signing new contracts.”
An interview with Musk’s father on Times Radio revealed he would be keen on the Reds, stating ‘anybody would want to’ before quickly adding it doesn’t mean he would try. He said: “I can’t comment on that. They’ll raise the price.” Before adding when pushed for an answer: “Oh, yes. But that doesn’t mean he’s buying it. He would like to yes, obviously. Anybody would want to – so would I.
“His grandmother was born in Liverpool, and we have relatives in Liverpool, and we were fortunate to know quite a lot of the Beatles because they grew up with some of my family. So, we are attached to Liverpool, you know.”
Musk is due to join Donald Trump’s US government when the President takes back up his residency in the White House. He is set to co-lead the new Department of Government Efficiency [DOGE].
Just last month the Rangers faithful unfurled a banner at Ibrox with a nod to Donald Trump. The tifo reading ‘Make Rangers Great Again’ was a slogan often used during his 2016 election campaign and it made an appearance in Govan for the Europa League draw with Ange Postecoglou and Tottenham in December last year.
And the President elect even considered the idea of buying Gers back. in 2012. He said: “We looked seriously and walked away. It just did not make sense to us, although they are a great club. We hope someone steps in and builds the team again.”
