Police in Dumfries have stopped a van full of cooking oil barrels they believe have been nicked from restaurants and cafes in the town.

The blue Ford Transit was stopped in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

A police spokesman said: “Our initial enquiries have identified a number of business premises who have had these barrels stolen.

“We encourage business owners to check their stocks of old and new cooking oils to ensure they have not become a victim of theft.”

Anyone who thinks they have had cooking oil stolen, or who may be able to help, is asked to call 101 quoting reference 0190 of January 8.
