Coronation Street‘s Charlotte Jordan, known for her role as barmaid Daisy Midgeley, is gearing up to leave the ITV soap later this year. Having joined the cast in 2020, Charlotte has decided to bid farewell after four years to pursue new ventures.
She expressed her sentiments, saying: “My time at Coronation Street is something I’ll always cherish. After a brilliant four years for Daisy, it’s time for me to start a new chapter and explore other opportunities.”
An insider disclosed to The Sun: “Charlotte has loved her time on the cobbles but is young, ambitious and hungry to see what else is out there for her. She told bosses last April that her next contract would be her last, giving them a year to craft an exciting exit storyline. She’s still filming now and her final scenes will play out in early summer. She’s adored by cast and crew and will be hugely missed.”
During her stint on the show, Charlotte’s character, Daisy, was pivotal to various storylines, including a menacing blackmail saga and a stalking ordeal by Justin Rutherford that led to a shocking acid attack on Daisy and Ryan.
The Katie Piper Foundation and Acid Survivors Trust International were closely involved with the soap’s production team, offering insights on the profound effects of acid violence while those poignant scenes were being filmed, reports the Mirror.
Soap boss Iain MacLeod described the commitment to portraying the long-term effects of a harrowing ordeal, stating: “We were keen to show the long-term reality for people who are subjected to this kind of attack. It is something we might often read about in the papers but perhaps don’t fully understand, in terms of the depth and variety of effects it can have.
“As well as the medical impacts, we explore the social fallout of having your appearance profoundly changed, both in terms of your own ability to process that and how the wider world reacts to you.”
He added: “The story will at times be heartbreaking but we felt it was an important one to tell.”
Following her intense stalking storyline, Charlotte scooped up the British Soap award for Best Dramatic Performance in 2023. After Helen Worth bid farewell to her role as Gail after half a century, Coronation Street now braces for further departures; Colson Smith (Craig Tinker), Sue Cleaver (Eileen Grimshaw), and Sue Devaney (Debbie Webster) intend to exit in 2025, with Luca Toolan (Mason Radcliffe) already gone.
Meanwhile, Lucy Fallon, aka Bethany Platt, shall take a temporary break as she embraces impending motherhood, leaving the cobbles for maternity leave.
