Evidence has been compiled by police and sent to the Crown Prosecution Service about a Premier League footballer accused of rape.

The player, who has not been named, continues to play regularly for his club on a full salary. The Mirror reports that he was arrested at a property in London in July 2022 following a report from a woman in her 20s.

He was further arrested on suspicion of two other rape charges against a different woman in early 2021. The player, who also represents his national team, was interviewed by detectives while under caution in February 2023 and again last November.

A statement released by the Met Police on Wednesday reads: “Met officers are investigating following a number of reports of alleged sexual offences between 2021 and 2023. A full file has been passed to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) and detectives continue to work with prosecutors.

“Those who have come forward to police continue to receive support from Met officers.”
