Nationwide Building Society East Kilbride recorded its highest ever donation total for its Christmas Toy Appeal.
Throughout December, 650 toys were donated from the local community as the branch teamed up with fundraising partner the STV Appeal to help support Glasgow’s No. 1 Baby and Family Support Service.
The lifeline charity works to support families from across the Glasgow area throughout the year, but each Christmas deals with referrals from local schools, support workers and health visitors to help families gift toys to their children.
They provide each child with five presents and an item of clothing and rely solely on donations from the community and businesses.
Last year the charity helped over 1500 families throughout Glasgow.
Audrey, who runs the charity, explained that they were so concerned that they wouldn’t be able to meet the demand last year, they didn’t advertise at all due to the volume of referrals they received the previous year.
She said: “The referrals that the team have seen have been higher than ever and, with the cost of living crisis still a real issue, they have seen more support being needed by families than ever before.
“From providing basic essential needs to helping families furnish properties, we have never seen a higher demand than in all the seven years we have been running.”
She added: “Thanks to Nationwide for their very generous donations and to these ladies for dropping them to the appeal.”
Nationwide East Kilbride would like to thank the generosity of the local community in their donations towards the Christmas Toy Appeal.
