KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV/Gray News) – A dog is recovering after being abandoned outside in a crate during a blizzard in Kansas City, Missouri.
According to the KC Pet Project, an elderly man called early Sunday morning to report that he heard a dog barking outside and looked outside his window to find a dog outside in a crate in distress. The man said he could not make it down his driveway to rescue the dog.
“Got to our shelter in the blizzard and the gates were frozen shut,” said Angelina Bryant, Animal Services Field Supervisor with KC Pet Project. “I couldn’t get to our animal control trucks, so I took my personal vehicle.”
Bryant said she found the dog outside in a crate, covered in snow.
Despite being in distress, the dog greeted Bryant with a wagging tail.
“The dog was excited to see me,” Bryant said. “I think she knew I was there to help her.”
The dog, who has not been named, is now all settled in at KC Pet Project.
“She’s doing great. Didn’t have any injuries, frostbite. She’s been hanging out in my office all day, super friendly. Taking naps, living her best life and she won’t have to deal with that again,” Bryant said.
The dog is being sponsored to go to a rescue until she finds her forever home.
KC Pet Project is investigating the incident with help from the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office.
