Coronation Street’s Simon Gregson, known for his role as Steve McDonald, might have to sell his home unless he repays a £252,000 loan from his production company.
Official documents reveal that Gregson and his wife Emma are obliged to return the funds at a rate of £1,500 per month to Simon Gregson Productions.
Despite reports suggesting the couple, who share three sons and have been married for 14 years, are separated, sources from Coronation Street claim they remain happily together.
The documents indicate they have three years to settle the debt or else they will need to sell their family residence, the Mirror reports.
The paperwork details: “The Director had an overdrawn loan account of £252,824. The analysis also revealed that this money was removed from the Company’s bank account and paid into Mr Gregory’s joint bank account with his estranged wife. Therefore, any claim would be addressed to both individuals.”
In 2023, Gregson dissolved Simon Gregson Productions Ltd, facing debts including £165,000 owed to HMRC and Coutts bank for a Covid bounceback loan. Last year, it emerged that he was auctioning off office equipment in an effort to alleviate his financial burdens, offering the items along with £6,000 cash as part of a settlement proposal.
An initial assessment suggested: “Due to the age and condition of the equipment it is anticipated any realisations will be minimal.”
Gregson has portrayed Steve since 1989 and reportedly earns a salary of £150,000. His wife Emma operates Morley Tea Rooms in Wilmslow, Cheshire.
Bill Roache, Michael Le Vell and Sally Dynevor have committed to another year on Coronation Street, solidifying the cast following the unexpected departure of Colson Smith, known for his 14-year run as Craig, and Charlotte Jordan’s exit, who portrayed Daisy Midgeley.
Whilst Helen Worth, recognized for her half-century role as Gail Platt, left on Christmas Day and Sue Cleaver, famed as Eileen Grimshaw, is taking a break, others including Luca Toolan (Mason Radcliffe) and Sue Devaney (Debbie Webster) have departed from the show.
Bill Roache, the global record-holder for the longest-serving TV soap actor due to his portrayal of Ken Barlow since 1960, remains with no intent to retire. Initially earning just £70 a week, he’s now rumoured to draw £250,000 annually.
He’s expressed his determination: “My aim is to be 100 and still working on Coronation Street. While they want me and while I can do it I’ll continue to do it.”
Meanwhile, 60 year old Michael, who entered the scene as mechanic Kevin Webster in 1983, faces a poignant storyline when his character discovers he has testicular cancer, challenging his relationship with Abi (played by Sally Carmen).
