Raging boss Tony Docherty has been told he was right to unleash on the decision to not award Dundee a penalty before about Rangers equaliser at Dens Park.
The boss had to settle for a Scottish Premiership point after Dundee has taken an early lead through Oluwaseun Adewumi before Vaclav Cerny cancelled it out. However, in the build up to the leveller from the Czech winger the hosts felt they should have had a penalty for Clinton Nsiala’s challenge on Simon Murray in the build-up – with Docherty insisting it was a “clumsy” challenge and should have been given by referee Callum Scott – while Greg Aitken in the VAR room opted against intervening in the flashpoint.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Kris Boyd conceded that it was a lucky escape for Philippe Clement’s men: “There is no doubt that Tony Doc won’t be happy with this. I can see it being given. I think both players – there eyes are fixed on the ball. He has stood on his foot. It would have fallen into into the soft category but we have seen them give.”
James McFadden added: “It’s not for me.” And Celtic hero Sutton wasn’t having it. He said: “It’s a coming together, it would have been ridiculously harsh.”
Dundee would think they had netted a winner late on when Adewumi found the net again – but Simon Murray would be flagged offside in the build up. Sutton was left baffled by the lines drawn by Aitken and the VAR team in Clydesdale House.
He said: “Who has drawn the lines? I don’t know whether my eyes are deceiving me, but that is so tight. I’m told it’s factual, but is it?”
