Baffled Alan Brazil has claimed that Rangers are only keeping Philippe Clement because they are “really tight” for cash.

There were calls from the stands at Dens Park for the Belgian to be axed after the Dundee draw saw the club fall a whopping 15 points behind Celtic after the latest round of Scottish Premiership fixtures – just days after the Light Blues battered Brendan Rodgers’ side on derby day. But Clement has failed to build any momentum after seeing off the Hoops and is facing fresh scrutiny over his position.

However, after the full-time whistle Clement insisted he was “200 per cent” certain that the board and CEO Patrick Stewart were behind him and the job. Speaking on the talkSPORT Breakfast Show, Celtic diehard Brazil woudl break rank to show sympathy for the under-fire Rangers boss: “It’s over (the league). He (Clement) must have thought he had turned a corner.

“The cup was an even game – the penalties – and Rangers played well. Celtic got battered at Ibrox, let’s be honest, and then you thought ‘right, do they kick on now?’ I was looking ahead to the Manchester United game in Europe. But they have had a nightmare since then.”

Co-host and Arsenal legend Ray Parlour said: “He is probably on thin ice. There is not much left in him. A couple more bad results and he will be away.”

Brazil speculated: “Maybe he is keeping his job because Rangers are tight for money? Really, really tight. They will deny it but they are.”

Parlour went on: “As a neutral, it would be so much better if Rangers were a little bit closer. But, Celtic have run away with it.” Brazil rounded off: “It’s over. It’s famous last words, but you can’t peg that back.”
