A man has been killed in a horror road accident in Dumfries and Galloway.

The 66-year-old was driving a Suzuki Ignis when it was involved in a collision with a Nissan Pulsar on the A75 near Annan on Thursday afternoon.

Emergency services raced to the scene where the man was pronounced dead.

The driver of the other car – a 56-year-old man – remains in hospital in a critical but stable condition.

The road was closed just before 2pm to allow police to carry out their investigations and reopened around 10.20pm.

Sergeant Neil Moffat said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the man who died and they have asked for privacy at this difficult time.

“Enquiries are continuing to establish the full circumstances and we are asking anyone who saw what happened to get in touch. In addition, if you have dash-cam please check it to see if there I anything that could assist our investigation.”

The accident involved a red Suzuki Ignis and a black Nissan Pulsar.
