Ayrshire motorists are being warned of more roadworks on the A77 next week.

New works announced by Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, will see a seven-mile stretch of the trunk road closed overnight between Ayr and Monkton from Wednesday, January 15.

Amey is set to undertake “essential bridge expansion joint replacement works” north-east of Prestwick which means a total closure of the A77 northbound and lane closures southbound.

The works coincide with resurfacing at the Bankfield and Holmston Roundabouts and road safety improvements at Doonholm Road and Corton Road.

Northbound traffic will be diverted through Ayr and Prestwick while the road is closed between the Bankfield and Dutchhouse Roundabouts each night.

Commencing on Wednesday, January 15, the works will take place from 8pm until 6am each night until Friday, January 17 and again from Wednesday, January 22 until Saturday, January 25.

A spokesperson for Amey said: “Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, is undertaking essential bridge expansion joint replacement works on the A77 north-east of Prestwick, from Wednesday, January 15 until Friday, January 17 and from Wednesday, January 22 until Saturday, January 25, between the hours of 8pm and 6am each weeknight.

“This work will require total overnight closures of the A77 northbound between Bankfield Roundabout and Dutchhouse Roundabout, as well as offside lane closures on both carriageways.

“Traffic will be diverted as follows: Northbound traffic will take Maybole Road, St. Leonards Road, Carrick Road, Station Road, then turn left on to John Street and continue to Monkton Road, the A79, and the A78 where this diversion will end.

“Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works.

“Please note, all schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.

“This scheme will benefit vehicles using this route each day, by improving the condition and safety of the carriageway structures and reducing the need for more extensive maintenance in the future.”
