The Balmacara Mains Guesthouse is nestled along a peaceful shore of Loch Alsh, close to the main route to Skye. Offering spectacular views out over the water, it is home to eight en-suite guest rooms and a separate self-catered chalet.

The guesthouse’s bedrooms include sea views, Egyptian cotton sheets, flatscreen televisions, and complimentary Wi-Fi. Meanwhile, the bathrooms come with “powerful showers” and “fluffy towels”.
Also included in the Wowcher deal is breakfast in the morning and a free bottle of Prosecco. The Balmacara Mains Guesthouse serves up a cooked breakfast made with “the finest local produce”.
In terms of things to do in the area, highlights include the secluded fishing villages of Applecross and Plockton, the picturesque Lochalsh Woodland Walks, and the historic Eilean Donan Castle. There is also the opportunity to take part in horse riding, kayaking, boat trips, and even whale spotting.

One Tripadvisor user described it as a “Scottish paradise”, adding: “Wonderful experience! Quiet and total naturally beautiful.
“Perfect view of the lake. We felt like we were staying in a family retreat instead of a hotel.
“We would highly recommend staying a few days. We had wonderful time and wish we lived closer.”
A second shared: “Fabulous location a short drive from the bridge over to Skye. Lovely views over the loch towards Skye.
“Great room with views – comfortable bed and lovely bright bathroom etc. Excellent breakfast and very pleasant staff.”
On the other hand, another guest complained about the guest house’s “poor condition of towels and congealed scrambled eggs”. The Tripadvisor user added: “The staff were really nice and helpful but basics let them down.”
