ATLANTA (WANF/Gray News) – About 200 people were evacuated from a Delta plane at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport following an aborted takeoff on Friday, according to the airline.
At around 9:10 a.m., the passengers used emergency slides to deplane flight 2668, which was headed to Minneapolis-St. Paul. Passengers were then taken from the tarmac to the terminal, Delta said.
Video from the incident show passengers running from the plane through the snow-covered tarmac and back to safety in the terminal.
Four passengers reported minor injuries, according to the airport. One was taken to the hospital, while the others were treated at the scene.
Delta said the Boeing 757-300 had an engine problem and the flight had to be aborted.
The Federal Aviation Administration will investigate.
“Nothing is more important than the safety of our people and customers, and we apologize to our customers for their experience,” Delta said in a statement. “Our focus is to address their immediate needs and get them to their destinations safely.”
The incident comes as Atlanta is blanketed by inches of snow. A winter storm warning is in effect for metro Atlanta and almost all of north Georgia until Saturday morning.
It is unclear if the engine problem was linked to the winter storm.
Hundreds of flight cancellations and delays are being reported at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. As of 10 a.m. Friday, there were 786 cancellations and 421 delays. Most of them are with Delta, Southwest and Frontier.
The airport is also under a ground stop until at least 2 p.m. Friday.
