Here are some of our favorites rejected by the Texas DMV that are also appropriate to share.

AUSTIN, Texas — Guess what? “CHKNBTT.”

That’s just one of the more than 2,300 personalized license plates the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles denied in 2024.

Even though Texas laws are extensive on what can lead to a rejection, drivers still think they can get away with some wild combinations.

June and July saw the most rejected plates by the DMV with 255 each. July also saw an absurd number of “Hawk Tuah” license plate variations rejected. While data for December still is not available, here are some of our favorites that are also appropriate to share:

  • FART CAR
  • YO LOCO
  • MOV3 0TW
  • UUMAD
  • FURIOUS
  • HEY LMAO
  • GIT OVER
  • CRM&PAYS
  • RO5D RGE
  • SCQMMER

In the past, the Texas DMV said staff members would review the personalized plate applications daily. If Texans get their plate rejected, they could choose a new personalization, receive a refund or appeal the DMV’s decision. Normally, those reviews are completed within five days.

The DMV rejected more than 3,000 personalized license plates in 2023.
