Dundee hero Oluwaseun Adewumi admitted rattling Rangers was one of the best moments of his career.
The Burnley attacker is looking to produce even more magic in a dark blue jersey after he confirmed he had extended his loan for the rest of the season. The Austrian under-21 cap scored Dundee’s opener and put on a man of the match performance in Thursday’s 1-1 draw with Philippe Clement’s stuttering side.
Adewumi proudly stated: “Yes, it was really nice. It was a great game and of course, against Rangers it was an unbelievable moment to score against them. I’m just very happy and just glad that things went well. I think it was a pretty good performance, like 100 per cent one of my best. Now I’m just looking forward to continuing like that.”
Adewumi had the ball in the net again in the second half but he was denied a second celebration by the offside flag. He admitted: “Yes because that would have been fabulous. I think so, yeah, because the gaffer told me after it I was slightly offside.”
Dundee manager Tony Docherty confirmed last week that a deal had been agreed to extend Adewumi’s loan for the rest of the season. The 19-year-old is now looking to really kick on in the second half of the campaign. He added: “Yes, I will be staying for the rest of the season.
“Yeah, of course, because the gaffer and the staff, everything, really trying to improve me and also the teammates, we build a really good chemistry. I’m just looking forward to producing these types of performances again.”
The teenager left Floridsdorfer AC in a final whirlwind day of the summer window. He joined Burnley and was put straight out to Dundee on-loan. He knows more performance like he showed against Rangers will help him catch the eye of the Clarets.
He claimed: “Yes, I know Burnley are watching my games and the more impact I can make here the better. Yes, like every week and after this game right now they also text me, so we are in contact pretty often. The way we took the game to Rangers was also huge for me. The atmosphere again today was unbelievable. “It was great.
“Before the game I just wished that I was going to have a good performance again. As I said, things went really well and now I’m just looking forward to it. I always love challenges, especially against huge clubs like Celtic or Rangers. And yeah, I just performed pretty good.”
Adewumi’s girlfriend was at the game but the rest of his family had to make do with DeeTV. He explained: “Yes, they already messaged me and yeah, they’re really happy for me. My whole family, my friends, like everyone knows.”
Adewmi admitted the move to Dundee has helped him grow as a player and a person. “It has helped me a lot,” the attacking midfielder explained. “Also, away from football, also in my private life, I’ve really achieved a lot of things. “I’m just trying to push every day.”
The point took Dundee to within a point of the top six. They achieved that last season and that is the first objective again this time around. He confirmed: “Yes, of course, every point is good for us.
“We’re trying to get the most out of it every game and yeah, especially against Rangers, a huge club, leaving a point here is probably good. Yes, we’re looking forward But we’re just trying to focus on game-to-game. So that’s our main focus.”
Dundee’s players have the weekend off but return on Tuesday night against Celtic. It will be an even tougher challenge. Adewumi acknowledged: “Especially after a game like this, every player has got a confidence boost right now.”
