Motherwell fell to a bruising defeat to Hibs on a freezing cold afternoon at Easter Road.
Goals from Martin Boyle and Nectarios Triantis had Hibs home and dry by the interval.
Sub Callum Slattery had pulled a goal back for Motherwell in 75 minutes with a superb free kick from just outside the box.
But Hibs captain Boyle added his second of the game from the spot, securing a win that pulls the Edinburgh giants to within two points of them in the Premiership table.
Motherwell’s misery was compounded with a red card for Jack Vale three minutes into stoppage time.
Hibs went into the game unbeaten in their last six, and effortlessly stretched that to seven.
Motherwell, meanwhile, slumped to another defeat in Edinburgh, having offered very little up front throughout.
The Lanarkshire side are undergoing a goalkeeper crisis at the moment, with Aston Oxborough injured and Krisztian Hegi recalled from his loan by West Ham.
The Fir Park club brought in Archie Mair on loan from Norwich City for the rest of this season, and he made his debut. The Fir Park club in turn recalled Matty Connelly from East Kilbride on a short-term basis, and he was on the bench.
Boss Stuart Kettlewell made four other changes to the side that drew with Kilmarnock in midweek, as Stephen O’Donnell, Kofi Balmer, Shane Blaney, Tom Sparrow and Kai Andrews replaced Marvin Kaleta, Dan Casey, Liam Gordon, Davor Zdravkovski and Tawanda Maswanhise.
Hibs made two from their draw with Rangers last weekend, as Warren O’Hora and Dylan Levitt came in for Kwo Hyeck-Kyu.
Hibs did a lot of the early running and took the lead in 23 minutes when sub Jordan Obita’s cross was smashed in by Boyle.
Hibs doubled their lead three minutes later when Triantis was allowed to race down the right flank, unopposed, and he smashed a shot in via the left post.
The Edinburgh giants had the ball in the net again through Josh Campbell’s header, but an offside flag further saved Motherwell’s blushes.
Slattery halved the deficit in 76 minutes with a superb curling free kick from just outside the box.
But that lasted just four minutes before O’Donnell’s foul on Lewis Miller saw referee Colin Steven point to the spot, with Boyle converting.
