Annan Athletic have snapped up Dan Carmichael from Dalbeattie Star.

The former Queen of the South and Hibs midfielder had been club captain of the South of Scotland League champs.

However, he has now moved to the Galabank club for another shot at SPFL football and is player/manager Wullie Gibson’s first signing of the January transfer window.

Gibson told the Annan club website: “Obviously I know Dan very well and I still feel he’s capable of playing at this level. His quality has never been in doubt but over the last few years he’s had injuries which have probably seen him drop down the levels.

“He’s been in training with us from the start of December and now getting closer to the fitness levels that’s required. He’s looked really sharp and lively in training and if he keeps that up hopefully he’ll make a good impact on the team.

“I am working on another few things and hopefully be able to add another two, possibly three, in this window.”

Carmichael, 34, has also enjoyed stints with Gretna 2008, Threave Rovers, East Kilbride and Workington.

Dalbeattie Star boss Eddie Warwick said: “We are delighted for Dan to have another opportunity at the professional level which he fully deserves.

“It’s been a privilege to have a player of Dan’s calibre at Dalbeattie. He is highly respected by all and has been an inspiration for all the younger players and children. Everyone at Dalbeattie Star wishes him all the best in his new venture.”
