Budding Wishaw media stars will be taking to the airwaves shortly thanks to the town’s YMCA.

The YM have successfully secured funding for the project and next month WYTV will begin production focusing on the history of Wishaw and its town centre.

YM chair Mary Jean Ferguson is delighted that the project is getting off the ground and hailed the enthusiasm of those taking part.

“They can’t wait to get started,” she said.

“It’s such a big thing for all the young people and they are really keen to engage with members of the public.

“There’s so much for them to find and discover so we are hoping that it will bring out a sense of pride in their home town.

“It’s going to be their project. They will be doing all the work and working in various roles so it’s very exciting to see exactly where it will go.”

Mary Jean credits her colleague Emma Williamson with getting the project off the ground and can’t wait to see the results.

She added: “Emma is the head of our esports academy and came to us with the idea of doing a project like this.

“Initially we thought it might be in the form of a podcast but the kids wanted to go down the path of content creation.

“Emma will work with them and they will be doing the jobs off-camera as well as being on camera.

“It’s her baby and we are really excited to see what the outcome will be.

“Initially YMTV will be about Wishaw town centre because that’s why we received the funding and we are hoping other individuals and organisations could help us.

“We had an incredible year in 2024 and this year promises to be even better.

“All of this has been made possible by the support of our members, volunteers, staff and trustees.”

If you would like to find out more about YMTV or would like to help the young people then contact the YMCA through their Facebook page or pop into their base in Quarry Street.
