Barry Ferguson admits the Rangers walkout from the Union Bears is not a good look – but refused to criticise anyone.
The Ibrox hero delivered his view on the talking point from Govan as Philippe Clement and his troops dumped St Johnstone 3-1 to get a much-needed win for the under-fire Belgian. The ultras group alongside the Rangers Supporter’s Association asked fans to take their leave in the 55th minute to send a message to the Ibrox hierarchy. During the game they unfurled a number of aimed banners but as they left their section of the ground, those who remained behind showed their feeling by booing.
They’ve since insisted their protests won’t stop and revealed in a short statement online: “Thank you to every Rangers fan who participated in the protest actions today. We will continue until there is real change for our club.”
Ally McCoist earlier today revealed his stance on the situation and now Record Sport’s Ferguson has given his opinion live on Go Radio, he said: “The way I looked at it is see if they want to walk out, they can walk out. See if they want to stay and show their issues to the managerial team or the board, that is fine. Some people didn’t even go to the game. It is up to them. They are free to do what they want.
“Is it a good look? No, it is not. But I am not going to criticise. People pay their money and are obviously concerned by results away from home. That is the problem, the lack of consistency in the Rangers performances and that has to change going forward.”
Asked about the walkout after Rangers’ win over St Johnstone, boss Clement explained: “I understand that fans are not happy with our away record. I’m also not totally not. Clearly it was two different ways (of supporting the team). A lot of fans stick to the team and support them, some fans want to show their disappointment. So it’s important to give the fans what they want to see and then everything will go back to normal.”
